Philosophy Café - 'What is it like to be you?' by Dr. Anna Mudde

The Philosophy Café is an open exchange of philosophical ideas led by a University of Regina Philosophy Professor or a Graduate Student. The Café runs each Fall and Winter semester.

"What is it like to be you?"
Presented by: Dr. Anna Mudde
Dr. Mudde is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Campion College at the U of R

In this talk I consider the social and political implications of the disagreements we often have with one another about what there is (in the world): disagreements that raise the question "what is it like to be you?" This is a philosophical relative of questions about perception of colours: do you and I see the same thing when we see red? By considering everyday examples, in this talk, I suggest that political or practical disagreements can and should lead us to ask a similar form of question -- not primarily about how our eyes and sensory systems work, but about our "ontological presuppositions," our underlying, implicit, commitments about what there is and what it is like.

The Philosophy Café is free and open to the general public, all are welcome to attend!
