City counts down to Congress 2018: Canada’s largest academic conference, May 26 – June 1, 2018

Monday marks the start of the official countdown to Congress 2018 at the University of Regina. Faculty, staff, and students are being treated to a sneak peek of Congress 2018, including cultural and community programming that will be free of charge and open to the community.

Media are welcome to attend Campus Countdown to Congress 2018.

TIME:        10:00 – 11:00 a.m.

LOCATION:     Multi-Purpose Room, Riddell Centre  (Light refreshments provided)  

The event – Campus Countdown to Congress 2018 – will include insider details about Congress 2018. An early call for the 500 volunteers it will take to host up to 7,000 delegates – from 68 scholarly associations – from across Canada and around the world will be featured. Volunteers are needed in a variety of areas and will be key to extending the warmest of prairie welcomes to our visitors.  

Countdown Speakers include:

•    Dr. Vianne Timmons, University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor

•    Dr. André Magnan, Academic Convenor, Congress 2018

•    Mayor Michael Fougere

•    Jesse Archibald-Barber, Associate Professor, First Nations University of Canada

•    Cassie Ozog, Graduate Student

•    Special performance by students Teddy Bison and Dezi Tootoosis

•    Congress 2018 musical surprises

Countdown Special Guests include:

•    Councillors Lori Bresciani, Mike O’Donnell (Congress Champion), Andrew Stevens,

and Barbara Young (Congress Champion)

•    Community partners, including: Tourism Regina, Tourism Saskatchewan, the Regina Hotel Association, Regina Downtown, and the Regina Airport Authority
