The Special Roundtable: Chiefs of Staff today with Katie Telford, Ian Brodie, and Judy Samuelson - Open to the public

Media Advisory Release Date: May 31, 2018 8:40 a.m.

Members of the general public are invited to join Congress 2018 attendees for The Special Roundtable: Chiefs of Staff today at 10:30 a.m. to Noon in the Classroom Building, Room CL 127.

Katie Telford (Office of the Prime Minister of Canada, Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau), Ian Brodie (Former Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Stephen Harper), and Judy Samuelson (Former Chief of Staff to Premier Roy Romanow) will shed light on the pivotal chief of staff role.

Chiefs of staff sit at the top of the political staff hierarchy. In the context of the Office of the Prime Minister or Premier, the chief of staff is responsible for running an organization that provides policy and political advice, communications and speechwriting, and logistics for events and travel. Both a manager of personnel and a key advisor, the role of chief of staff has gained increasing attention in both academic and media circles.

Canada’s largest gathering of the country’s brightest researchers, thinkers, and policy-makers continues at the University of Regina until June 1.

Congress 2018, hosted by the University of Regina, welcomes 5,000 academics with the social sciences and humanities. The “Gathering diversities” theme of the Queen City’s largest-ever conference, celebrates the history of Regina as a traditional place of gathering and rich buffalo hunting grounds for numerous Plains cultures and explores education as a new buffalo.
