Triple-ball initiative promotes physical activity

Media Advisory Release Date: November 20, 2014 4:53 p.m.

Professor June LeDrew, Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies, at the University of Regina has delivered a new initiative in the elementary schools called Triple-ball. Partnering with SaskVolleyball and the Regina Public School Board, the Saskapalooza league was created with the purpose to get children more active. This intake specifically targeted girls, as the research shows this age to be critical in keeping girls active through adolescent years. The goal was to have 90 girls to participate, however, they exceeded that number and have accommodated 187 in the league.

Saskapalooza for fall 2014 will finish with a tournament on Friday, November 21 with all 15 teams participating from Coronation Park, Dr. L.M. Hanna, Henry Janzen, George Lee, W.F. Ready, Rosemont, Gladys McDonald and Massey schools.
