University of Regina’s sold-out Inspiring Leadership Forum to feature Caitlyn Jenner and other inspirational speakers on “Living Your Truth”

2020 marks the 11th year of the University of Regina’s Inspiring Leadership Forum. Presented by TD Bank, this year also marks the final time that President and Vice-Chancellor Vianne Timmons will host the event as she prepares to leave her position as President at the end of this month. Dr. Timmons was the driving force behind the creation of ILF, which has become a premier, leadership development event that provides an opportunity to hear inspirational stories from internationally-renowned women, all with remarkable stories to tell.

“Being a part of the Inspiring Leadership Forum for the past 11 years has been a true highlight of my time with the University,” says President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Vianne Timmons. “This event has brought so many inspiring women to Regina and given the community an opportunity to hear their amazing stories.”

The theme of this year’s sold-out event is “Living Your Truth,” reflecting the authenticity and perseverance of each of the speakers. 

  • 9:15 – Dawn Smith is an American writer, producer, and speaker. She has worked as a field producer for Bernie Sanders’ campaign, as well as for other Democratic candidates. In 2018, Smith gave a TEDx talk about her experience leaving The Assembly, an evangelical, fundamentalist cult her grandfather started in the 1960s.
  • 11:00 – Samra Zafar escaped a decade of abuse after living as a child bride in a forced marriage. Now an award-winning international speaker, author, scholar, and activist, she speaks around the world about collective resilience, authentic leadership, human rights, and mental health issues. Zafar recently published her first book, A Good Wife, which was named a top read by the Washington Post.
  •  3:00 – Caitlyn Jenner became the world’s most famous transgender woman when she revealed her true self to millions on national television. A former Olympic gold-medalist, father of 10, reality television star, and tireless champion for the LGBTQ2S+ community, Jenner is committed to using her celebrity status to change attitudes and mindsets.
  • University of Regina President, Vianne Timmons will emcee the event. Chancellor, Pam Klein will join her at 1:15 p.m. for a conversation about women, leadership, authenticity, and difficult goodbyes.
