University Drive South Construction

June 19

View Pedestrian Walkway through Lot 4

The University Dr., South rehabilitation project requires that pedestrians walking north and south between GGTC and the education building be routed through Lot 4.

This pedestrian detour will be in effect until approximately the end of July or until pedestrians can return to walking across University Drive south between the two buildings.

On Monday, June 17, commencing at 7:00 a.m., a 150-metre section of roadway on University Drive South will be closed in order to allow for much-needed remediation of the asphalt surface. Anticipated completion is July 23.

The section of roadway under construction spans from Research Drive east to Golden Rod Road. This section is immediately south of the Education Building and is the first of three construction phases scheduled over the summer to remediate 550 metres of asphalt roadway along University Drive South.

During all three construction phases, the roadway restrictions will
accommodate access to the Education Building loading dock and the parking stalls on the south side of the Education Building, as well as access to all parking lots and the KHS Building underground parkade.

During the three construction phases, some pedestrian pathways and vehicular movement will be restricted along University Drive South, as well as secondary roads connecting to the construction corridor.
Directional signage will be erected during each construction phase, and pedestrian pathway corridors will be installed to provide safe passage to destinations including parking lots and athletic fields.

The City of Regina Police Service, Fire Department, and RQHR Ambulance Service have been informed about the construction and have been provided with the University Drive South Construction Project Traffic Control Plan.

During the U Drive South Construction Project, please be mindful of posted signage and take the necessary precautions when near the construction area.

Weather permitting, U Drive South Construction Project completion is scheduled for mid-August.

Beginning Monday, May 13, construction at the intersection of College Avenue and Lorne St. will affect both pedestrian and vehicle access to College Avenue Campus.

Vehicle traffic on College Avenue will be reduced from four lanes down to two, and pedestrian traffic will be re-routed between Cornwall and Smith streets. This will limit access to Ramsey Drive in front of College Avenue campus. Visitors, students and staff using vehicles are encouraged to access the campus via the south parking lot and entrance. These areas are best accessed from the north via the Hamilton St. entrance or the south – through the park – along Wascana Drive.

Pedestrians will only be able to cross College Avenue at clearly marked crossings at Cornwall Street and/or Smith Street. A portion of the south sidewalk will be closed.

The work is estimated to take approximately nine weeks, with completion expected in late July.  Drivers and pedestrians are asked to be patient, slow down and obey all detours and traffic signs.

The construction is part of the Conexus Building Communities project and is designed to realign the intersection at College and Lorne making it safer and improving access to Wascana Park.
