Morgan Green uses computer programming to deal with language. Recent linguistics proposes language as a mental organ, a biological entity. In their practice, Green pushes this idea into the realm of science fiction: a narrative where language is both a vital structure and a parasite. Language helps you survive and even sparks pleasure, but it also fosters violence. And while your language grows inside you, it also predates you by many centuries. It is how history enters the body. Tech companies try to tame the whole fiasco — scrambling to process an infinity of text. In their work, Green uses computers to expose rather than regulate words: their wildness and power.

Morgan comes to Regina from Allegheny College, where they worked as an Assistant Professor of Computer and Information Science and Affiliated Faculty of Art. From 2020-2022, they taught as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of New Media Art at the University of Illinois, Chicago. Their work occupies public institutions, including the Special Collections at Amherst College and the Riverside Public Library. They have shown artwork at galleries and film festivals throughout North America, and presented at conferences including the New Media Caucus Symposium and The Ammerman Biennial Symposium for Arts and Technology.  In 2023, they presented a solo exhibition titled Text Fields in the New Media Caucus’s online Header/Footer Gallery. Green holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a BFA from the University of Southern California School of Film and Television. They presented at the 30th International Symposium on Electronic Arts in Seoul this ast May.
