Dr. Ian Coulson joined the University of Regina in 2000, and has since served in a variety of academic, administrative and leadership roles. Most recently, he was Head of the Department of International Languages (2022-25) in the Faculty of Arts. Ian holds the rank of Professor in the Faculty of Science, and is Director of its electron microbeam facilities. As a Dean-sponsored participant he completed the URLeading program (2018-19) that the University implemented to support leadership development.

A graduate of the University of Portsmouth (Bachelor of Science), Ian holds a doctoral degree from the University of Birmingham. He has held post-doctoral appointments at the University of British Columbia and Queen’s University, and was a visiting professor at Universität Tübingen (Germany) during a sabbatical in 2007. Ian is a national- and international-recognised-scholar, having published over 85 peer-reviewed contributions on research funded by Tri-Agency, Canada-Foundation for Innovation, and Government of Saskatchewan awards. In the local community, he is also a founding director of the Katepwa Sailing Association, a not-for-profit community organisation established to foster recreational sailing on the “Calling Lakes” (Pasqua, Echo, Mission and Katepwa lakes) of the Qu’Appelle Valley, where all are welcome. From each of the above, Dr. Coulson brings a wealth of experiences in teaching, scholarship/research, administration, and leadership to the role of Associate Dean (Undergraduate) in the Faculty of Nursing, and his goal is to support student success across each of its nursing programs.
