Mathematics Honours Student Earns Rev. Gerald F. Lahey, S.J. Prize from Campion
Peter Wadel is this year’s recipient of the Joan & Norman Beirnes Scholarship and the Rev. Gerald F. Lahey, S.J. Prize from Campion College!
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is pleased to announce that Peter Wadel has earned the Joan and Norman Beirnes Scholarship this year and the Rev. Gerald F. Lahey, S.J. Prize from Campion College at the Spring 2024 Convocation!Every year, the Joan & Norman Beirnes Scholarship recognizes a distinguished undergraduate student with a minimum cumulative grade point average of over 85% in the past year, and the Reverend. Gerald F. Lahey, S.J. Prize from Campion College recognizes the most distinguished undergraduate student graduating with their first degree from Campion College. Peter has earned a Bachelor of Science High Honours in Mathematics where his honours research examined Zauner’s conjecture, an open problem in quantum information theory. The conjecture seeks to affirm the existence of a maximal set of equiangular rays, called a SIC-POVM, in every finite-dimensional complex Hilbert space.
This fall, Peter will be joining the University of Waterloo as a Master of Mathematics student in Pure Mathematics!
Congratulations, Peter! We wish you the best in Waterloo!
