Meet Our Featured PIMS Postdoctoral Fellow
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is excited to announce Dr. Sushil Singla’s tenureship as two year PIMS postdoctoral fellow under the sponsorship of Dr. Douglas Farenick. His primary research focus is in functional analysis and operator algebras, especially the study of C*-algebras, but he also enjoys learning about matrix theory and operator theory due to their inherent connection with operator algebras.
Dr. Singla grew up in the city of Jind, Haryana, in India. After he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Sciences at St, Stephens College New Delhi, he completed his Master’s and Ph.D. in Mathematics at Shiv Nadar University Delhi NCR under the supervision of Dr. Priyanka Grover on the topic of Birkhoff-James orthogonality and distance formulas in C*-algebras and for tuples of operators. He has had successful postdoc positions at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore and ISI Delhi Center, and he has had another postdoc at the University of Primorska, Slovenia under the sponsorship of Prof. Bojan Kuzma. Currently, he is visiting Prof. Tirthankar Bhattacharyya at IISc Bangalore.
Outside of research, he enjoys graduate teaching, graduate curriculum development, and traveling to meet new people. He is excited to work with Dr. Farenick for the next two years because of Dr. Farenick’s expertise in the fields of linear algebra, functional analysis, and operator theory, and he is especially excited to meet and to work with Dr. Karen Meagher and Dr. Shaun Fallat because of their work in discrete mathematics!
