Research Week Showcase: Student Research
In addition to our faculty showcase for UofR’s Research Week, our mathematics and statistics students also participated in various events showcasing their research work over the past year. Our students participated in the 3 Minute Thesis competition, and a summer 2024 NSERC USRA student, Emily Erick, presented her work on Bayesian nonparametric survival function estimation using combined cohort data in a judged poster session. Her supervisor, Dr. James McVittie, provided some comments on Emily’s work and the research of our students:
“It was an absolute pleasure working with Emily over the summer months on this interesting problem in survival analysis. The discovery of new results in modern statistical problems is quite exciting for both the supervisor and student, making the overall research experience both fun and memorable. I look forward to working with Emily in the future and learning about the interesting research work conducted by our students!”
Students interested in working on research problems in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics are encouraged to contact our faculty members for potential research opportunities as well as for reading courses that extend beyond the standard curriculum.
