Do I need to have a Bachelor of Social Work degree to apply to the MSW program? I have an undergraduate degree in another discipline with many years of professional experience in human service fields.
All applicants must hold a Bachelor of Social Work degree to be considered eligible.
Is the MSW program an online program?

We offer a blended program. Most of our courses are delivered through hybrid, blended (combination of synchronous virtual class meetings and asynchronous online work), and remote methods (synchronous virtual classes), allowing students to complete the program remotely.

Currently, the only course with an in-person component is SW 873 Social Work Practice with Couples. This is an intensive counselling course offered during the Spring/Summer term. Students will complete readings remotely and attend in-person lectures for one week at the Regina Campus or Saskatoon Site.

Is the MSW program offered on a full-time or part-time basis?
We offer both full-time and part-time studies. For the Field Education route, placements (450 hours) must be completed full-time.
How long does the program take to complete?
It typically takes full-time students two years to complete the program.
Is the field education placement mandatory? Who sets up the placement?
A field education placement is mandatory for students who are completing the Field Education route, and it is 450 hours in total. Students will find their placements on their own.
Are there specific courses that I need to have in my undergraduate studies to apply?
Students are required to complete a research methodology course before entering the program. If your undergraduate program does not include one, you may receive a conditional admission offer requiring you to complete the course before starting the program.
Do I need to find a supervisor before applying to the program?
Applicants do not need to identify supervisors. The Faculty will assign supervisory committee for thesis students. Field education students do not need supervisors due to the program stream structure.
What entry terms are available for the MSW program?
Entry into the program is available in Spring/Summer and Fall. We do not offer admission for the Winter term.
Do you accept international students? If so, what is the language requirement?

Yes, applicants with international BSW credentials who apply for admission to the MSW Program are required to provide the WES International Credential Advantage Package (ICAP) Course-by-Course report for degree equivalency and GPA calculation as per the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research.

We follow the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research’s English language proficiency requirements.

How many seats are there in the program?
We do not have a fixed number of seats. The number of students admitted per intake is usually around 30 to 40.
Are there any scholarships or financial assistance available?
Yes, please visit the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research’s webpage for more details.
How do I apply?
Please submit an online application through the admissions portal. The application deadline is November 1st each year. This application guide will help you through the process.
What documents are required?
Please review the Application Requirements section for the list of required documents.
The application process requires one academic reference and one professional reference. I have been out of university for a while and my professors do not remember me anymore. What can I do?
For applicants who have been out of university for 4-5 years, we will accept both references to be professional.
What citation format should I use for the application?
We recommend applicants to use academic writing following the APA style citation (7th edition).
I missed the MSW application deadline. Can I still apply or be put on a waitlist?
We do not accept any late applications.
When will I hear about the admission decision?
Decision letters will be sent out electronically from mid-December to early January.
