Social Work Students' Society Regina
The Social Work Students’ Society Regina (SWSS Regina) is a student-run organization created by and for social work students at the University of Regina.
SWSS Regina provides opportunities for students to connect, participate in events and initiatives, engage in advocacy and social justice work, contribute to student-led discussions, and build community within the Faculty of Social Work.
Mission
The SWSS exists as a venue for social work students to gather and pursue common goals and interests. The Society has an overarching goal of contributing to positive change within the Faculty of Social Work, the University of Regina, and the broader community.
The work of SWSS is guided by the values and ethical principles of the social work profession.
What We Do
SWSS Regina works to:
- provide opportunities for educational, social, professional, and leadership development;
- promote awareness of social work and issues affecting social work students;
- support advocacy, social justice, equity, and community engagement;
- organize events that connect students, faculty, social workers, and community organizations;
- represent the interests and perspectives of social work students within the Faculty of Social Work, the University of Regina, and other relevant organizations; and
- provide opportunities for students to participate in committees, events, initiatives, and student leadership.
Membership
Membership is open to students enrolled in Pre-Social Work or the Bachelor of Social Work through the University of Regina Faculty of Social Work.
Students who would like to become a Member at Large can email SWSS Regina at uofrswss@gmail.com or message us through our Instagram page @ureginaswss to be registered.
Members can attend SWSS meetings, bring forward ideas and concerns, participate in events and initiatives, volunteer, join committees, vote where applicable, and run for Executive positions when eligible.
Meetings
SWSS Regina holds regular Members’ Meetings throughout the academic year. These meetings are used to share updates, discuss issues relevant to students and committees, and provide members with opportunities to bring forward ideas.
SWSS Regina also holds an Annual General Meeting each year for annual business, Executive elections, and constitutional matters.
Meeting dates and information are shared through SWSS Regina’s communication channels.
Get Involved
Students do not need to be Executive members to participate in SWSS. Students can get involved by attending meetings, volunteering at events, joining committees, contributing ideas, participating in advocacy or fundraising initiatives, sharing student concerns, or applying for Executive positions when vacancies are announced.

Information about SWSS
President
Provides overall leadership to SWSS Regina and helps ensure the Society operates effectively. The President chairs Executive, Annual General, and Special General Meetings; supports the coordination of the Executive Team; helps develop meeting agendas; promotes respectful and effective participation; serves as a signing authority where applicable; and represents SWSS Regina in communication with external organizations and partners.
Vice-President
Supports the President and Executive Team in the overall operation of SWSS Regina. The Vice-President may act in place of the President or Secretary when required, assists with Executive coordination and conflict resolution, serves as a signing authority where applicable, and supports fundraising and other Society initiatives.
Secretary
Supports the organization and record-keeping of SWSS Regina. The Secretary prepares and maintains meeting minutes, assists with meeting agendas and notices, keeps organizational records and archives, and helps ensure important information is communicated to members and the Executive Team.
Treasurer
Oversees the financial administration of SWSS Regina. The Treasurer maintains banking and financial records, provides financial updates to the Executive Team, supports budgeting and financial planning, prepares required financial reports, and serves as a signing authority where applicable.
Social Justice & Advocacy Chair
Leads and supports SWSS Regina’s advocacy and social justice work. This role helps identify issues affecting social work students, brings member concerns forward, supports awareness and advocacy initiatives, and helps connect SWSS with relevant community organizations, campaigns, and opportunities.
Events Chair
Coordinates and supports SWSS Regina events and student engagement activities. The Events Chair gathers event ideas from members, helps plan and organize events, coordinates volunteers and logistics, and works collaboratively with other Executive members on fundraising and engagement initiatives.
Social Media & Communications Chair
Oversees SWSS Regina’s communications and social media presence. This role helps ensure students receive timely information about meetings, events, opportunities, elections, advocacy initiatives, and other Society activities, while maintaining clear and consistent communication across SWSS platforms.
Member’s Representative
Represents SWSS Regina and the interests of social work students at relevant University and undergraduate meetings. The Member’s Representative communicates information between these meetings, the SWSS Executive Team, and the broader membership, and helps ensure student perspectives are represented.
