The Dr. John Archer Library & Archives has partnered with Regina Public Library (RPL) to offer a new pickup location on the U of R’s main campus for materials borrowed from RPL.

We know that students need a break from their studies and whether that’s by reading, listening to music, or watching movies, we know there’s a need for these leisure materials.  —Brett Waytuck, Dean, University Libraries and Archives

Members of the community, including faculty, staff, and students, can now pick up and return their Regina Public Library materials at the brand new pickup station in the Archer Library. This opens up access to materials from library locations across the province, which can be delivered to the Archer Library pickup location within just a couple days.

“We know that students need a break from their studies and whether that’s by reading, listening to music, or watching movies, we know there’s a need for these leisure materials,” said Brett Waytuck, Dean, University Libraries and Archives. “So it made sense for us, rather than try to build a collection, to partner with RPL who has an amazing collection across the whole province that can now be accessed by students, faculty, and staff right here on campus.”

For international students and newcomers to Canada, there are also materials available in a variety of languages.

The process couldn’t be easier – here’s how you can start enjoying Regina Public Library’s vast collection of materials.

Step 1: Get your RPL card

If you don’t already have a library card, head to reginalibrary.ca/register, enter a few details about yourself, and you will receive instant access to a digital library card that will allow you to browse and place holds on a wide range of RPL materials for free. To make things even easier, you will soon be able to add your digital library card to your Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Of course you can also visit any RPL branch throughout the city if you prefer to have a physical card.

Step 2: Pick something out

Once you’re signed in, you can start browsing the thousands of free materials that are available such as books, eBooks, movies, music and more. Once you’ve found what you’re looking for, place a hold on the item and select the University of Regina as your pickup branch. No matter where it is in the province, the item will be delivered to the Archer Library as soon as it is available.

Step 3: Pick it up

Once your item is available, you will receive a notification that your item is ready to be shipped from RPL. Deliveries to Archer Library happen Monday-Friday, so read your notice carefully to be sure you know they’ll be there. Head to the pickup station beside the front desk, find your item on the shelf, scan your digital or physical library card at the computer kiosk, and scan your item.

Step 4: Enjoy!

Take your item and enjoy your break from your textbooks – just remember to bring it back on time! Once you’re done, items can be dropped off at the same location at the Archer Library.

Happy reading (or listening, or watching)!
