The Student Success Centre offers a variety of Academic Excellence workshops designed to assist you with developing your academic skills and becoming a better student. Our interactive, 45-60 minute workshops are available throughout the year on a rotating schedule and are offered both in person and via Zoom.

Workshop Topics

Reading and Note Taking for University
Taking notes and reviewing course material are skills that are essential for success at university. This workshop will provide strategies for efficient and effective information collection that will promote retention and increase understanding.
Study Smarter
Learn studying tips & tricks and anti-procrastination strategies to help you prepare for your exams.
Time Management
This workshop will help you investigate where your time is going and how to become efficient with your schedule and life priorities. 
Citations Crash Course

This workshop focuses on building students’ skills in using APA-style in-text citations through hands-on practice. Participants will learn how to incorporate both direct quotations and indirect (paraphrased) material into their writing while correctly citing sources within the text. The session also highlights why accurate citation is essential, including its role in maintaining academic integrity, avoiding plagiarism, and strengthening the credibility of scholarly work. Through guided activities, students will develop both accuracy and confidence. Please note that this workshop is limited to in-text citation practice and does not cover other APA formatting elements such as title pages, margins, or reference lists.

Students need to bring a laptop or notebook to complete the exercises in this workshop.

Essay Writing Tips and Tricks
This workshop will provide strategies to help you understand how to plan, create, and revise an essay at the University level.
