Visiting Reseach Students

The Visiting Research Student (VRS) Program is designed to provide an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a degree program at an accredited institution to gain valuable experience, specialized training, and research collaboration at the University of Regina.

What You Need To Know:

Eligibility

For students to be eligible for (VRS) program, they must:

  • Be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Be in good academic standing at their Home Institution
  • Have a Host Supervisor at the University of Regina who has agreed to host them
  • Have a research plan or proposal for the time that they will be spending at the University of Regina
  • Have funding from one of the following sources: their home institution, an official scholarship- or grant- awarding body, or an agreement with the Faculty Host.
Visiting Research Student program candidates cannot be self-funded.

Undergraduate and Graduate Visiting Research Students are not considered students of the University of Regina and therefore are not permitted to attend any classes for credit towards a degree program at their home institution.

Program Fees

A program fee of $400 CAD ($100 Application Fee; $300 Program Service Fee) will be applied for the research visit.

VRS  candidates are also responsible for the full payment of University of Student Service & Wellness Fee. These fees must be paid each semester and are subject to change.

Research visits that span more than one (1) semester will have a $200 CAD rollover fee applied at the beginning of each subsequent semester.
Host Supervisors
Prior to application, all potential Visiting Research Students must identify an accredited University of Regina faculty member willing to be their host supervisor to take part in our programs.  Please explore our Faculties and Academic Units and contact the person(s) or department(s) which share your research interests.  Please note that UR International does not match prospective Visiting Research students with host supervisors.

Registration

Upon arrival in Regina, Visiting Research Students will be registered as a full-time student in a non-credit placeholder course which confirms that they are engaged in academic research activities.  This registration will signal other University of Regina units of your research status (thereby allowing issuance of a student identification card, library and laboratory access, email account activation, etc.).  Students will be registered in the placeholder course for each term during their period of research activity.  This registration is visible on official University of Regina transcripts and Confirmation of Enrolments should proof of status be required.

Visiting Research Students are admitted on the understanding that research will be the exclusive focus of their academic activity and are not permitted to register in other coursework.
