Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are registered nurses with additional education at the Masters level which provides them with the advanced and legal scope of practice to:

• Autonomously diagnose and treat illnesses
• Order and interpret tests
• Prescribe medication
• Perform minor surgical procedures
• Refer to specialists
• NPs are health care professionals who treat the whole person which includes:
  • Addressing physical, mental, emotional needs
  • Focusing on how an illness affects a person’s life and family
  • Health promotion
  • Collaborating with the person using an evidence-based, informed decision-making approach to care
