Regional Colleges

Learn Where You Live

The U of R offers in-person, online, live-streamed, hybrid and hyflex courses, and courses right in your community at your local community college. With so many options to choose from, you can succeed in your U of R academic journey without relocation or commuting. You'll experience different modes of learning so, when you decide to transfer to a larger centre, you'll already have experience with university-level courses in a variety of teaching methods.

Staying In Your Community

You have your own reasons for wanting to begin your university journey in your community. Your support network is there, you can save money living and working at home or maybe you're not ready to move out just yet. Whatever the reason, courses at regional colleges are a great way to ease into, and succeed in, university life.

I chose going to Great Plains College for my first year because it allowed for the transition from high school into university to be smooth. I was still at my family’s house (which saved a lot of money), studying in the same spot I studied all through high school.

The class sizes were small for my electives and I got to know my professors and they got to really know us too.

Scholarships and Smaller Classes

There are specific scholarship opportunities for students at regional colleges. In addition to financial support, classes are often smaller meaning the professors and instructors can give you personalized one-on-one advice and support.

Great Plains College allowed me to continue living at home with my parents while I got accustomed to a university work load - my marks benefitted greatly from this. Jordan, U of R Graduate
