What is the Online Bachelor of Education After Degree?
The Faculty of Education is rooted in anti-racist and social justice orientations to teaching and learning. Becoming a student here will require you to stretch your thinking, to examine your own positionality, and to develop a critical consciousness around the lives of those marginalized by various forms of systemic inequities.
The Online Bachelor of Education After Degree program develops a deep understanding of the complexities of school life and supports the growth of critically engaged citizens. Through building professional attitudes, knowledges, and skills, you will gain the adaptability needed to meet the challenges of today’s diverse classrooms.
The program takes up critical culturally responsive and anti-oppressive teaching practices; development of culturally appropriate curricula; building capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect; leadership in treaty education. The program endeavours to attract teacher candidates from diverse backgrounds and representative of Saskatchewan demographics.
With online coursework and field placements that we coordinate close to home, you will be prepared to step confidently into your role as a teacher while staying rooted in your community.

Some courses you may take as part of this program include:
ECE 325 - Experiential Learning for Young Children
Planning, organizing, and evaluating learner-centered curriculum and environments for young children. Multiple modes of learning and forms of representing learning. Applying principles of developmentally and culturally appropriate practice to classroom environments
ECS 101- Education for Justice: Knowledge, Schooling and Society
The course provides an introduction to the foundations of teaching, including politics of education, ethical relationality, teacher identity and professionalism, conceptions of learners and learning, and teaching for justice, equality and equity. *Note: Required classroom based placement of one half day per week for 4 weeks
ECCU 400 - Treaties in the Classroom
This course will provide a historical basis, a connection to Saskatchewan curriculum, and a practical approach to the study and teaching of the Treaties between the First Nations people and the Crown in what is now Saskatchewan.
ECS 495 – Curriculum and Pedagogy
Designed to examine curriculum and instructional methods, topics explored in this course include generic and subject-specific instructional strategies for K-12, knowledge of the historic and current context of Saskatchewan education (including curriculum documents), and developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive pedagogy, with a particular focus on Indigenous education in the province.
