The University of Regina’s new Online Bachelor of Education After Degree (Elementary) program is approved by the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Professional Regulatory Board, meeting all requirements for Teacher Certification in the province. You can earn your teaching degree online in just two years, without leaving your community.

Designed for those who already hold a bachelor’s degree and want to teach in Saskatchewan, this program builds a strong foundation in the realities of school life and supports the development of thoughtful, engaged educators. What is the Online Bachelor of Education After Degree?

The Faculty of Education is rooted in anti-racist and social justice orientations to teaching and learning. Becoming a student here will require you to stretch your thinking, to examine your own positionality, and to develop a critical consciousness around the lives of those marginalized by various forms of systemic inequities.

The Online Bachelor of Education After Degree program develops a deep understanding of the complexities of school life and supports the growth of critically engaged citizens. Through building professional attitudes, knowledges, and skills, you will gain the adaptability needed to meet the challenges of today’s diverse classrooms.

The program takes up critical culturally responsive and anti-oppressive teaching practices; development of culturally appropriate curricula; building capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect; leadership in treaty education. The program endeavours to attract teacher candidates from diverse backgrounds and representative of Saskatchewan demographics.

With online coursework and field placements that we coordinate close to home, you will be prepared to step confidently into your role as a teacher while staying rooted in your community.

Graduate of the program, you will be equipped to:

  • Enact innovative and responsive pedagogies, including equitable assessment and evaluation.
  • Teach, learn, and participate in our digital world.
  • Support multiple literacies in the classroom.
  • Respond with multiple levels of intervention to learning, behavioural, and health challenges.

Some courses you may take as part of this program include:

ECE 325 - Experiential Learning for Young Children

Planning, organizing, and evaluating learner-centered curriculum and environments for young children. Multiple modes of learning and forms of representing learning. Applying principles of developmentally and culturally appropriate practice to classroom environments

ECS 101- Education for Justice: Knowledge, Schooling and Society

The course provides an introduction to the foundations of teaching, including politics of education, ethical relationality, teacher identity and professionalism, conceptions of learners and learning, and teaching for justice, equality and equity. *Note: Required classroom based placement of one half day per week for 4 weeks

ECCU 400 - Treaties in the Classroom

This course will provide a historical basis, a connection to Saskatchewan curriculum, and a practical approach to the study and teaching of the Treaties between the First Nations people and the Crown in what is now Saskatchewan.

ECS 495 – Curriculum and Pedagogy

Designed to examine curriculum and instructional methods, topics explored in this course include generic and subject-specific instructional strategies for K-12, knowledge of the historic and current context of Saskatchewan education (including curriculum documents), and developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive pedagogy, with a particular focus on Indigenous education in the province.

How do I apply?

Admission to this program is offered for the Fall term only. The priority application deadline is March 15.

You can apply online and submit your application, pay the application fee, and upload all required documents in one place.
Can I apply if I live in Regina or Saskatoon?
Preference is given to applicants who live more than 100 km from Regina or Saskatoon. However, applications from other qualified individuals may be considered after March 15 if space is available.
What are the application requirements?
Applicants must meet the Faculty of Education admission requirements. For details on admission requirements, please visit the Application Guide. Applicants will be notified of admission decisions in early May.
Is the program only for Saskatchewan residents?
We prioritize applicants who are Saskatchewan residents, and all field placements must be completed within the province to meet teacher certification requirements.
Can I complete the program part-time?
Yes. Students may pursue this program on a part-time basis. If you take 3–5 courses per term, you’ll be considered full-time. Taking fewer than 2 courses per term is considered part-time. To finish the degree in two years, you’ll need to take 15 credit hours each term (approximately 5 courses).
Where will my field placements be located?
Placements are arranged as close as possible to your home community, typically within 100 km of your residence.
Will I need a new Criminal Record Check for each placement?
Yes. You must submit a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (CRC VSS) as it is required for each field experience, unless you are continuing in the same classroom from fall to winter.

Graduates of the Online Bachelor of Education program earn a Bachelor of Education degree that the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Professional Regulatory Board has approved, meeting the requirements for Saskatchewan Teacher Certification.
