Dr. Noha Razek received her PhD in Economics (specializing in energy and international economics) from the University of Alberta in 2012 and a Galileo Master Certificate in Hydrogen Energy from the Renewable Energy Institute in the UK in 2022. She has more than 20 years of experience.              

Dr. Razek joined the University of Regina (UofR) in 2019 and is currently an Associate Professor of Economics. She was a Visiting Professor at the University of Alberta in 2025/2026. Before joining UofR, she held various positions in government, academia, and international research institutes in Canada (including a Post-doctoral fellow at the China Institute and a researcher at the School of Business of the University of Alberta) and overseas (including Senior Research Associate at King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) in Saudi Arabia). Dr. Razek is a reviewer for several well-regarded peer-reviewed journals and a Board Member of the Canadian Association for Energy Economics (Canada’s Chapter of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE)). Previously, she was a liaison for the American Economic Association’s (AEA) Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession (CSWEP).

Dr. Razek’s research has been at the intersection between energy and financial markets, international macroeconomics, international energy policy, geopolitics of energy and minerals markets, energy and minerals security, and energy transition risks; tackling advanced economies (Canada and the United States) as well as emerging and developing economies ( including Russia, Saudi Arabia, and China). Her research focuses on resource-dependent and resource-exporting economies. She has published high-quality peer-reviewed journal papers, policy papers, and scholarly articles; and has presented at national and international conferences, including the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE).
