Julia Siemer

Dr. Siemer specializes in applied spatial analysis and data visualization in geographic information systems (GIS). She is currently serving as the Canadian National Delegate to the International Cartographic Association (ICA), is a member of the Executive Committee of the Canadian Cartographic Association (CAA), and the Geomatics Institute of Canada (CIG), where she also serves as Cartographic Councillor. Prior to joining the University of Regina, she held positions as a cartographer in publishing houses in Germany and Switzerland. She has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in cartography, GIS, and geography at the University of Potsdam, the University of Applied Sciences Berlin, Germany, and the University of Regina. Prior to accepting a position with the University of Regina, she was the map editor and chief cartographer of the GIS-based Demographic Atlas of Albania. Her current research interests include cartographic visualization of population distribution, thematic mapping techniques, and analysis and mapping of food accessibility.
