Guest Speaker - George Smith

George Smith, Fellow of Queen's University School of Policy Studies will be presenting " The Fragile Future of Free Collective Bargaining in Canada".

George’s talk will focus on developments at the federal level, but his commentary on back-to-work legislation, government intervention in collective bargaining, and essential services will undoubtedly resonate with the labour relations community in Saskatchewan.

Biography
George Smith has had a thirty-seven year career leading the Human Resources function in public and private sector enterprises with national and international operations before joining Queen's University in 2010. His responsibilities have included labour relations; compensation & benefits; organizational development & training; health & safety; crisis management; corporate governance and HR/IR Policy.

 He has negotiated over 100 collective agreements with, among others, the Canadian Media Guild (CMG), the Communication, Energy and Paperworkers Union (CEP), the Canadian Auto Workers Union (CAW), the Teamsters Union, The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and the Canadian Airline Pilots Association (CALPA). He retired in 2010 as a Senior Vice-President at CBC/Radio-Canada after fourteen years during which he was initially responsible for HR/IR and latterly responsible for the IT, Broadcast Technology and Real Estate functions.
