Academic Probation

As of April 28, 2021, the Faculty of Business Administration implemented a new Faculty Academic Probation policy.

An undergraduate student of the Faculty of Business Administration must maintain a Program Grade Point Average (PGPA) of 65% or higher, as a 65% PGPA is the average that is required to graduate from the BBA or Diploma programs. If a student does not maintain a 65% PGPA, they will be placed on Faculty Academic Probation.

Faculty Academic Probation policy states a student must raise their Program Grade Point Average to 65% or higher within 24 credit hours after having been placed on Faculty Academic Probation.
If a PGPA of 65% or higher is not achieved within 24 credit hours, a requirement to discontinue studies in the Faculty of Business Administration for a minimum of two consecutive semesters (8 months) will occur.

Please note, if a required program course is failed regardless of probation status, students will have one additional attempt to complete it successfully.

A second failed attempt in a required course would also result in a requirement to discontinue studies from business (exception of ENGL 100; allows 3 attempts).

The following actions will be taken by the Faculty when a student is placed on Faculty Academic Probation:

  1. They are required to meet with an Academic Advisor in the Student Success Centre as soon as possible. This advisor will discuss strategies to help improve academic performance and may put certain conditions on registration.
  2. They will not be eligible to register for future semesters until they have met with a Student Success Advisor.
  3. If the minimum probation requirements are not met in subsequent semesters, they will be required to discontinue from the Faculty of Business Administration for two consecutive semesters (8 months).

These minimum requirements will be discussed further at the academic advising appointment.
