Scholarships

About

The Conservatory awards more than $30,000 in scholarships every year. All prizes are awarded for continuing performing arts education at the Conservatory of Performing Arts. If a student is going on to study performing arts at a post-secondary institution, the Conservatory requires proof of enrolment to apply the scholarship towards their studies.

Applications for the 2022-2023 Auditioned Scholarships and Non-Auditioned Scholarships are now being accepted and the deadline is March 20, 2023. Award winners will be announced by the end of May. Scholarship money will be applied to students accounts by mid-June for use towards Fall 2023 lessons and classes.

Payment and Financial Aid

Payment Options

Payment for all Conservatory of Performing Arts courses and programs is required at the time of registration.

The University of Regina accepts cash, debit, EFT, VISA, MasterCard and American Express. If registering by phone, fees must be paid by credit card.

No student will be able to register for any program at the Conservatory of Performing Arts if there is an outstanding balance owing to any part of the University of Regina.

Call the Student & Instructor Services Non-Credit Office to discuss payment plan options available for our courses.

Financial Aid

If you require financial assistance to help you cover a portion of the costs of music instruction, the Conservatory has a limited number of bursaries available to students and their families.

Bursaries are based on financial need and follow a distinct application process from awards and scholarships.  You may apply anytime during the year.

Creative Kids Saskatchewan

Families with financial needs can apply to Creative Kids Saskatchewan funding to take our camps or courses. Children must be between the ages of 4-19. Find application forms and more information on the Creative Kids website.

Recitals

Schedules and Applications

Students registered in Private Lessons at the Conservatory have the opportunity to play and sing at Conservatory recitals. Each year the Conservatory presents over 35 recitals. Students have to register a few weeks in advance, so please check the following schedule with all relevant dates and deadlines.

General Guidelines

Late Registrations

Late registrations will be accepted if approved by the instructor or registration office; full course and materials fees apply to late registrations. Some programs like our Youth Strings (Violin & Cello) and Pipe Band will intake participants throughout the year; fee pro-rated at registration.

Waiting Lists

If a class is full, a student may request to have his/her name added to a waiting list in our online registration system. If a spot becomes available, the registration staff will contact the student based on wait listed date. The student will be given one business day to respond, after which time, the space in the class will be offered to the next person on the waiting list.

Attendance

Failure to attend a class or lesson does not constitute withdrawal.

No classes or lessons may be attended before registration is completed – when payment has been received by the registration office or the online registration process and payment have been completed. Attending lessons or classes without completing the registration process does not constitute being registered.

  • Classes, rehearsals or lessons missed by the student will not be made up. We ask that students provide their instructor with at least 24 hours notice if they plan on missing a lesson.
  • Group programs: If the class instructor is absent, a pre-approved substitute instructor will teach the class. In the case where it is not possible to arrange for a substitute teacher and the class is cancelled, a make-up class will be scheduled. If a make-up class cannot be arranged, a credit equivalent to the pro-rated cost of the missed class will be placed on the student's account that can be applied to future classes.
  • Private instruction: Conservatory instructors are required to make up a lesson at a time mutually agreed upon only if the lesson is cancelled by the instructor.

Cancellations

The Conservatory of Performing Arts reserves the right to cancel, postpone, or combine classes due to insufficient registration or other unforeseen circumstances. In the event of cancellation, participants will be given every opportunity to transfer into another class or full refunds will be issued.

Exceptional Refund Requests

These requests will be considered under special circumstances such as a prolonged illness of three (3) weeks or more and are the discretion of the Head of the Conservatory of Performing Arts. Go to Non-Credit Course Policies for more details.

Withdrawals & Refunds

Visit our Non-Credit Course Policies page on our website. These policies can also be found on your receipt. Check our website or call our Student & Instructor Services Non-Credit Office if you have questions about withdrawals or refunds.

Practice Rooms

Due to COVID protocols, the Conservatory does not currently have practice rooms available for students.
