Child/Parent Strings

The Child/Parent Strings Program offers the best in early string instruction under the leadership of Karley Parovsky (violin). Our program instructors also include Joel MacDonald (cello), Andrea Hedlund (violin), and Rudy Sternadel (violin).

Running as a supplement to Private Lessons in violin or cello for ages 3-8, children start with private lessons then move into the program when the instructor feels your child is ready. There are two class components in this program: a weekly 45-minute Group Class (all students) and a 45-minute Musicianship Class (only after the first year).

  1. Group Class encourages learning to play as an ensemble, polishing performance pieces, reviewing repertoire, and building community.
  2. Musicianship Class involves learning music theory basics and other skills to improve performance.

The start times of the two classes depends on your child's playing level. New students can join anytime of the year with the fee pro-rated depending on the start date. Call our Student Services office to register if you are joining after September. Students must be registered for Private Lessons at the Conservatory of Performing Arts to be involved in this program, as our instructors follow the same curriculum in their Private Lesson studios.

Thanks to the support of the Saskatchewan Orchestral Association, Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund for Sport, Culture and Recreation, and SaskCulture, Inc we have brought the Child/Parent Strings Program into schools.
