McCall MacBain Scholarship

 Full Scholarships for Aspiring Community Leaders

Interested in mentorship, leadership skills development, and funding to start your next degree?

The McCall MacBain Scholarships are Canada’s largest leadership-based scholarships for master’s and professional studies. The program brings together students who strive to engage in positive change by taking on meaningful leadership roles.

The scholarship covers:

  • Tuition and fees for 150+ eligible programs at McGill University
  • A living stipend of $2,300 per month during academic terms
  • Summer funding options and a relocation grant
  • Mentors and coaching
  • A leadership curriculum

Up to 30 full scholarships and 100 one-time awards, ranging from $5,000 to $20,000 each, will be offered. Two-thirds of the scholarships are available for Canadian students, and one-third are for international students in Canada and abroad.

Criteria: Character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity.

Timeline: Applications for the 2027 McCall MacBain Cohort will open in June 2026. Canadian/US Applications due Sept 23, 2026 & International Applications due Aug 19, 2026. More info can be found here.

Rhodes Scholarship

The Rhodes Scholarship is a fully-funded postgraduate award which enables talented young people from around the world to study full-time at the University of Oxford. The Rhodes Scholarship is merit-based, with the purpose of developing public-spirited leaders, and to promote international understanding and peace through an international community of Scholars.

TIMELINE: Applications for the 2027 cohort open June 1, 2026. Internal applications to the U of R are due May 25, 2026. If selected for endorsement, final applications to are due September 24, 2026.

Rhodes Scholarship Application Timeline (2027)

Deadline to submit an internal application for institutional endorsement to amy.hunter@uregina.ca. Internal applications must include:

  • A full curriculum vitae (CV)* (maximum 2 letter size pages, with a minimum 12pt font) which should include specific details about academic qualifications, publications, prizes, scholarships, positions of leadership, employment positions, involvement in student, voluntary, community or political activities and any cultural, musical or sporting accomplishments. If you have an ORCID ID, you may wish to include this. Please do not include a photograph in your CV.
  • A personal statement of no more than 1000 words outlining who you are. This is a personal statement, so be authentic and tell the committee why they should pick you! See pages 6-7 of the information for candidates document for more details on what should be included and on the questions you should answer as part of the personal statement.
  • An academic statement of 450 words. See page 8 of the information for candidates document for more details on what should be included and on the questions you should answer as part of the academic statement of study. Note: Make sure you are eligible for the program you are choosing.
  • A list of at least six potential referees**: name; email; indication if they are an academic or character reference; a few sentences for each referee, indicating your relationship to them and what elements of your application they are best positioned to speak to. A good referee is one who knows you well, rather than a well-known person who only knows you superficially.
* For information and support related to preparing a CV please visit the Centre for Experiential and Service Learning (CESL).
 
** Reference letters are not required for the application for institutional endorsement though possible references can be made aware that, if you are shortlisted as a U of R endorsed applicant, they will have until September 28, 2026 to complete and submit their assessment.
Mid-June
  • Selected applicants will meet with the University of Regina External Student Awards Committee to be considered for institutional endorsement.
June-September
September 24, 2026 before 23:59 PT
  • Deadline for endorsed applicants to apply to Rhodes Trust.
September 28, 2026 before 23:59 PT
  • Deadline for reference & endorsement letters to be submitted.

Note:
All candidates enrolled at the University of Regina must submit an application for institutional endorsement and participate in the internal competition/applicant meeting adjudicated by the External Student Awards Committee. Endorsed candidates will be contacted regarding completing the online Rhodes Trust application. The online application process requires endorsement only available through the External Student Award Committee.

Pathy Foundation Fellowship


Applications for Cohort 11 of the Pathy Foundation Fellowship are open until November 15th!

This is a fully-funded opportunity for graduating students with an interest in social change.

Fellows are provided with comprehensive training, dedicated wrap-around supports, and $50,000 in funding to make a sustainable impact in a community with which they have a meaningful connection and to support their growth as active and effective leaders and changemakers.

The U of R’s first McCall MacBain Scholar, Isabella Grajczyk strives to engage in positive change by taking on meaningful leadership roles.

Grajczyk (BEd, BA International Studies) founded Sask Girls United, a non-profit offering free programs in leadership, mental wellness, and goalsetting for girls and gender-diverse youth. She is involved in gender equality projects for the UN’s Development Program and serves on the board of the Regina Public Interest Research Group. She is pursuing a Master’s in political science at McGill.
