The International Energy Conference 2026
The University of Regina hosts the inaugural International Energy Conference (IEC 2026) from July 27 to 31, 2026, bringing together scientists, engineers, industry leaders, and policymakers from across Canada and around the world to tackle the most pressing questions in global energy. Saskatchewan is a fitting home for this first-ever gathering. The province is Canada’s
second-largest oil producer and the sixth-largest in North America, holds some of the world’s largest uranium reserves, and carries growing momentum in wind, solar, and geothermal energy.

The five-day program spans three core areas: Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS), and Energy Transition and Integration. The opening ceremony on July 29 features addresses from the Honourable Warren Kaeding, Saskatchewan’s Minister of Trade and Export Development, and U of R President Dr. Jeff Keshen. Keynote speakers include Prof. Jesse Zhu (Canadian Academy of Engineering) and representatives from SaskPower and SaskEnergy. Expert panels, organized with the UNESCO Chair in Green Transition for Carbon Neutrality and Climate Change, cover Sustainable Fossil Fuel Production, Emerging Technologies in Energy, CCUS, and Energy Transition. The conference also includes a full-day site tour of SaskPower’s Boundary Dam CO2 capture facility and the PTRC Aquistore site, and a Gala Dinner on July 28 at Conexus Arts Centre.
