Letter of Reference

Applicants will require two references for their application, with the exception of Non Degree which only requires one reference and Nursing which requires three.

Choose referees who know your skills and experience, and can communicate your ability to succeed as a graduate student. References from family members, friends, students, applicants, educational consultants and former or current classmates are not accepted.

Please contact your referees before applying to confirm: (1) Their availability and (2) their contact information including an institutional or professional email address which will be required when completing the online application.

After completing and submitting your application online, a secure email link will be sent to each reference listed in your application. This link includes the required information for the reference to complete in support of your application. Once completed the submission will return a completed recommendation to our unit on your behalf.

Please note, non institutional or organizational email addresses will not be sent a link. If your referee does not have a required formatted email address they will need to complete the reference form and mail in the references directly to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research office.

If you need to resend the email or update your referee, please login to your online application portal.

NOTE:

  1. Reference documents received by email are only official if they come from the referees’ institutional or professional email address. E-mails from Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, MSN or other free e-mail accounts are unofficial and will not be accepted.

  2. If the referee sends the reference form by regular mail, ensure your referee signs the form, seals the envelope securely and signs their signature across the seal of the envelope.

  3. If your referees would like to add a personal recommendation letter, it must be on institution or company letterhead and signed by the referee. These should either be attached to the online reference link or mailed as above.

All reference forms and other application documents must arrive at the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research by the applicable deadlines.
