Whether you want to meet other students, advocate for graduate student needs, help shape university decisions, or gain leadership experience, there are different ways to get involved.
Find the Right Fit for You
Join a Graduate Student Group
Connect with other graduate students around shared interests, experiences, communities or goals. Student groups are a great way to meet people, build community, organize activities and create opportunities for yourself and others.
This could include groups such as INSPIRE, SAGE, BIPOC GSA and one of the many faculty-related graduate student organizations.
Get Involved with Graduate Student Government
The University of Regina Graduate Students’ Association (URGSA) represents graduate students and provides opportunities to get involved in student leadership, advocacy and decision-making.
Whether through an elected position, committee work or GSA activities, this is an opportunity to represent graduate student perspectives and help shape the issues that matter to students.
Represent Graduate Students on a Committee
Graduate student voices are important when decisions are being made.
Committees across FGSR and the University regularly need graduate student representatives. Serving on a committee gives you an opportunity to bring the student perspective into conversations about programs, policies, services and the broader university experience.
Some committees need one student representative; others may have several positions available.
Why Get Involved?
Getting involved can look different for everyone. You might want to:
- Have a say in decisions that affect graduate students.
- Add your perspective and help make sure student experiences are represented.
- Meet people outside your program or faculty.
- Build leadership and communication skills through real experience.
- Learn how the University works and how decisions are made.
- Make connections with students, faculty, staff and university leaders.
- Contribute to something you care about and help improve the experience for students who come after you.
You don’t need to do everything. Choose something that interests you, fits your capacity, and gives you a way to contribute that feels meaningful.
Your Voice Matters
Graduate students experience the University differently than faculty, staff or administrators. That perspective matters.
When students participate in groups, student government and university committees, they bring questions, experiences and ideas that might otherwise be missing from the conversation.
You don’t need to be an expert. You just need to bring your perspective.
