Hazardous Waste Disposal
Hazardous waste disposal service is available to University of Regina faculty, staff, and students ONLY.
Hazardous waste includes:- Chemical waste
- Old or expired chemicals
- Glass waste (contaminated and non-contaminated)
- Sharps (contaminated and non-contaminated)
- Human and animal waste (e.g. materials contaminated with blood and body fluids or tissues, organs, carcasses, etc)
- Microbiological waste (e.g. pipette tips, cultures, tubes, etc)
- Radiation waste
Waste Drop-off
Hazardous waste may be dropped off at UR Stores - Research and Innovation Centre (RIC) 110, during regular business hours (Monday to Friday - 8:15 am to 4:30 pm)

Complete the Hazardous Waste Disposal Form and email to Health & Safety at least two business days prior to your hazardous waste drop off. If you have a question regarding any of the hazardous waste disposal procedures below, please contact Health & Safety.

Biological Waste Disposal
Please refer to the Biological Waste Disposal Guide (PDF) as a quick reference.
All human, animal, and microorganism material that have been produced, used, or handled at the University of Regina must be disposed of properly.
Incineration
Items that require third-party incineration must be packaged in appropriate containers from UR Stores. Waste disposal pick-up occurs on an as-requested basis. Please e-mail Health & Safety to request waste disposal.

Chemical Waste Disposal
Please refer to the Chemical Waste Procedures Poster (PDF) to ensure waste is packaged properly, labelled with appropriate waste labels, and how to complete a Hazardous Waste Disposal Form.
If you are unsure of the hazard class associated with a particular chemical, refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
Sharps & Glass Waste Disposal
To ensure all sharps and glass are disposed of properly, please refer to the Sharps & Glass Waste Poster (PDF).
To ensure disposal of instact glass chemical bottles are disposed of property, please refer to the Empty Bottles & Barcodes Poster (PDF).
Under NO circumstances should liquids be placed in glass waste pails. All dried, trace residue contamination must be indicated on the glass waste label.
