Trish Cooper:
A Theatre graduate from the University of Winnipeg, Trish Cooper has worked as an actor and a writer in Winnipeg and Toronto. She began writing sketch comedy with the Royal Liechtenstein Theatre Company and wrote for the Fringe Festival circuit including The Year of the Panda (with Vanessa Macrae), The Comment Card and Homely Woman #2. She was a writer/performer for Theatre Projects
Manitoba's inaugural In the Chamber series, and has also been a regular contributor for CBC's Definitely Not the Opera. Recently, she worked as both writer and performer on the web series, Wind City.
Social Studies (Scirocco Drama), which Cooper developed during her time in the Prairie Theatre Exchange Playwrights Unit, was her first full-length play. Telling the story of a family who has taken in a refugee from Sudan, it won Best Manitoba Play at the 2016 Manitoba Book Awards. Another recent new play developed during a Riding Mountain Artists’ Residency is called Children Special Services. Inspired by her own experiences as the mother of a child living with a disability, the play follows the loving, scattered, busy parents of a child with Cerebral Palsy and how they navigate social services bureaucracy and systems that hinder instead of help.
Cooper is based in Winnipeg.
