Title: On the development of a von Neumann interactive system
Speaker: Trevor Tomesh

Date: Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016
Time: 2:30pm - 3:20pm
Place: CL 418

Abstract: Interactive hardware systems can be defined in terms of classical von Neumann components -- input, control, memory, output and an external recording medium. In contrast to the machine described in von Neumann's "Report on EVAC," however, an interactive system requires that the structure identified as "outside recording medium" should not be treated as a passive external read/write device - but rather as a complete active von Neumann structure of its own. In this seminar, the logical consequences of this assertion are discussed at length along with an account of the development and demonstration of a "von Neumann interactive system" implementation.
