MSc (Project Route)

A fully qualified student may complete a Master's project route by undertaking 21 credits of coursework and 9 credits of professionally oriented project research. The student must complete a project report to the satisfaction of his/her supervisor(s), and pass a project defense. In addition, the student is required to give two non-credit CS seminar presentations.

M.Sc. project route requirements (30 credit hours)

In the project route, students must successfully complete a minimum of seven courses and a research project undertaken in the field together with a project report, presentation and defense, coupled with two non-credit seminar presentations.

* It is recommended that students register in CS 902; however, CS 901 will be accepted for those students who have transferred to the M.Sc. project route from another M.Sc. route (such as thesis) in Computer Science.

That is, the project route requirements are as follows:

• Seven classes (3 credit hours each)
  1. CS 800-level
  2. CS 800-level
  3. CS 800-level
  4. CS 800-level
  5. CS*
  6. CS/non-CS*
  7. CS/non-CS*
• Computer Science project (CS 902) or Thesis Research (CS 901) for 9 credit hours
• Two seminar presentations (CS 900) for 0 credit hours

*maximum of two 700-level courses may be taken (others must be 800-level)

Note: If a student has completed 9 credit hours of CS 902/901, but must continue to register to remain in the M.Sc. program, the student should register in additional hours of CS 902.

Co-op Designation Requirements

• Be registered full-time in the Computer Science (MSc) program
• Have complete at least two (2) University of Regina CS 800-level courses
• Obtained a minimum grade of 80% in the above courses
• Have the permission of your project supervisor

Note: Acceptance to a Co-op work term is subject to the approval of the Co-op Grad Coordinator. Attaining a Co-op work term is a competitive process through the Career Centre. Credit hours earned on a work term are extra to the credit hours required in the Thesis-based, Project-based and Course-based Master's programs.

Pre-Approved Non-Computer Science Courses

The following courses have been pre-approved and will satisfy the non-CS course requirement in all CS graduate programs listed above. Please note that this is not meant to be an exhaustive list of the non-CS courses that may be taken. Its only purpose is to itemize those courses that have already been examined and approved. Students are encouraged to consider courses not on the list that are relevant to their programs, while being reminded that all non-CS courses not on the list must be approved.

• Courses in Software Systems Engineering: ENSE 483, 882, 885AJ
