Dr. Sarobidy Razafimahatratra (PhD '22) is the 2024 Fields-AIMS-Perimeter Postdoctoral Fellow at Fields Institute!

The goal of this fellowship is to support young researchers, who are African nationals committed to advancing science in Africa, working in the areas of mathematical sciences or fundamental theoretical physics. Under the sponsorship of a one-year research term, Dr. Razafimahatratra became one of the select few to land such an opportunity through the Fields institute in the last decade.

Originally from Madagascar, Dr. Razafimahatratra was a doctoral student in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics from 2018-2022 under the supervision of Dr. Shaun Fallat and Dr. Karen Meagher where he studied Erdős-Ko-Rado type problems for permutation groups. Despite the global pandemic’s restriction on his academic experience, his dedication and perseverance culminated in an award winning thesis, as he earned the President’s Distinguished Graduate Scholarship Award in 2022, and it secured him a postdoc at the University of Primorska in Slovenia under the supervision of Dragan Marušič. As the holder of Fields-AIMS-Perimeter Postdoctoral Fellowship, Dr. Razafimahatratra will be working with Dr. Ada Chan to discover new avenues of study in algebraic graph theory by applying similar tools he has used regarding Erdős-Ko-Rado type problems to other problems.

Congratulations, Dr. Razafimahatratra, on your well-deserved appointment!
