Meet the UofR Topology and Geometry Research Group!
The Topology and Geometry Research Group at the University of Regina is a collaborative group of mathematicians working on open problems in the fields of topology and geometry.
Overseen by four University of Regina faculty members: Francis Bischoff, Martin Frankland, Liviu Mare, and Donald Stanley, the research group is currently composed of the four faculty members, six graduate students, and two summer research interns. Topology studies the shape of spaces, and geometry is concerned with quantities like angles, lengths, volume, or curvature. The Topology and Geometry group's research interests span algebraic topology, homotopy theory, Lie groups, differential geometry, and complex geometry. In addition to the group’s shared interests, the group members use research tools from neighbouring fields of study including algebra and category theory.
Over the past six years, the group has been hosting a weekly learning seminar series, called the Topology & Geometry Seminar, which also features research developments by guest lecturers from across the world. Moreover, they are currently co-organizing the upcoming PIMS Collaborative Research Group "Diagram Categories in Homotopy Theory" with collaborators at four other institutions.
Anyone looking to join the research group or participate in their seminar series should contact Martin Frankland!
