Summer Bridge Program (SBP)

Are you nervous about starting classes in the fall? Do you wonder if your academic skills are good enough for university? Would you like to meet other students before classes start in the fall? Do you want to complete your English 100 course early, in a supportive environment, so you can focus on your other classes in the fall? Then the University of Regina Summer Bridge Program is for you!

This program will give new students a chance to experience the University of Regina campus before the fall semester starts, and will give them an opportunity to develop their academic skills before taking on a full-load of classes. The program incorporates academics, university preparation, and social activities to prepare students to be successful at the University of Regina.

The Basics:

  1. The in-class porition will run August 7-30, 2018, but the program runs from July 18th until August 30th.
  2. Components include:
  • English 100 (accepted for 3.0 hours of credit in all U of R programs). Some pre-reading will be required.
  • Non-credit programming to help you develop academic skills and prepare for university
    • Tentative topics include:
      • Academic writing, spelling/grammar, academic integrity, citations, research, academic communication, university expectations and policies, technology training, note taking, exam preparation, time management, study plans, procrastination, and stress management.
  • Social activities to help you meet other students and explore the university and the city
    • Tentative social activities may include:
      • Guided tours of campus, movie nights, bowling, laser tag, cooking nights, and social events offered in Regina during the month of August
  • An option to live in U of R Residences


Tuition and course fees for English 100

Approx. $850 for domestic students/ $1,974 for International students*

*Based on 2017/18 tuition. Subject to change.

Non-credit programming and social activities $500
Books Approx $100-150

$750 for students living in Residence in fall

$800 for those staying for August only

Meal Plan is optional

The SBP team will welcome you to the University of Regina! You will receive the ENGL 100 reading list and visit some key spaces on campus. 2017 SBP students may join us to answer all your questions!
If you cannot attend the orientation, we will email you the reading list

ENGL 100 pre-work (on your own time)
July 19 - Aug 6
You will have at least three weeks to do the pre-work (ENGL 100 reading list) before starting the course on Aug 7.

SBP and ENGL 100 classes
Aug 7 - Aug 30, 8:30am-3:30pm

In-Class Schedule
Your day will look something like this:

8:30-11:30 - Workshops/coaching session/writing lab

11:30-12:30 - Lunch break

12:30-3:30 - English 100

3:30-7:00 - Independent study/personal time and dinner break

7:00-9:00 - Optional group activity, outing, or study session

On the weekends you might want to explore Regina with your new friends, or schedule some group study time. We may offer some optional weekend social events if there is interest.



Apply before June 15, 2018 to guarantee your spot!

All newly admitted University of Regina students are eligible for the program. However, there are a limited number of seats available so apply now! When we process your application we will also register you in English 100 and the non-credit course.

Stay in Residence

If you are interested in staying in residence you can apply using the Web Housing Portal.
Students who already have a Fall residence room reserved can simply email to notify them that you are participating in the Summer Bridge Program and therefore will require an early arrival date in August.  Please specify the date they wish to move in.
Students who have not applied for Housing yet can still stay on campus for the Summer Bridge Program. Students can contact to arrange for their stay!
