  4. Internship and Practicum Placements Abroad
If your academic program includes a practicum or internship component, you may be able to complete it outside of Canada. An international placement can enhance your professional skills, expand your global perspective, and strengthen your résumé.
Process

The placement process is primarily student-led, with students responsible for identifying and securing a suitable placement that meets the requirements outlined by their home faculty.  Students are encouraged to search for opportunities through various international organizations, partner universities or institutions, professional associations, faculty or alumni networks or various placement providers.

Students are responsible for working with their program coordinators within their home faculty to ensure appropriate registration and correct tuition assessment.  Typical placement windows align with the university’s semester dates: Fall (September–December), Winter (January–April), and Spring/Summer (May–August).

Please ensure that you work with your Academic Advisor/Centre for Experiential Learning (Co-operative Education and Internships | University of Regina) to see if you have space in your program for an internship/practicum placement.

Immigration Considerations

Domestic students

Domestic students completing an internship or practicum abroad are responsible for ensuring they meet the immigration requirements of the host country. This may include obtaining the appropriate visa or permit to participate in an internship, practicum, or training placement.

International students

International students must ensure that participating in an internship or practicum abroad complies with both Canadian immigration regulations and the immigration requirements of the host country. Please contact International Student Services at international.studentservices@uregina.ca to confirm whether a work permit, study permit, or other authorization may be required before proceeding.

Scholarships

International travel can be expensive! Students are encouraged to explore funding opportunities to help offset the costs of studying or completing a placement abroad.
