Dr. Klassen's current research focuses on settler colonial mythmaking in newspapers and other public media, and examines the connections between immigration, ethnic identity, and settler colonialism. She primarily works with late-nineteenth century newspapers and immigration promotional materials, and her book, which uses Manitoba in the 1870s as a case study for how settler colonial systems and institutions develop, will be published in April 2026. She also writes about Mennonites and settler colonialism in Canada.
