News in 2021

	The Accounting Fellowship Program welcomes 7 new members this year, bringing the group to a total of 472 members. Due to COVID, no banquet was held, but we will recognize and celebrate students on social media in the coming weeks and they will be invited to a future banquet. The Accounting Fellowship Program recognizes the academic accomplishments of accounting students. Membership in the Accounting Fellowship Program is recognized by the accounting community as a significant accomplishment achieved only by the best accounting students. Students in the program have achieved a grade point average of 80% or more. Congratulations to the 7 students joining the Accounting Fellowship Program in 2021: Jesse Dang, Vincent Del Rosario, Ramisa Kabir, Sukhbeer Kaur, Sylvia Ofurum, Amanda Stromberg and Anni Vasudeva.

	Congratulations to our Hill ICBC 2022 teams that have advanced to the Final Round of competition, which will be held virtually January 13 through 15: Accounting team of Cassidy Kurtz and Sylvia Ofurum with coach Nola Joorisity Business Strategy team of Abdul Khelifa, Sophie Lightheart and Dani Yeager with coach Bruce Anderson Ethics team of Julie Watson and Nhi (Jessica) Tran with coaches Lee Elliott and Dr. Tatiana Levit Marketing team of Andrew Daverne and Savannah Lutz with coaches Dr. Tatiana Levit and Lee Elliott Congratulations to all of the students involved. 	Dr. Lisa Watson has accepted a decanal appointment in the Faculty of Business at Athabasca University starting in January 2022.

	Congratulations to Dr. Gordon Pennycook who is the recipient of the Psychonomic Society’s 2021 Early Career Award.

	Congratulations to Dr. Gordon Pennycook who was also the recipient of a grant from John Templeton Foundation for $269,715 over 3 years for the project “Metacognition, intellectual humility, and the psychology of belief” with fellow collaborator Dr. David Rand.

	Congratulations to the 118 students from the Hill School of Business and the 47 students from the Levene Graduate School of Business who convocated in Fall 2021. Congratulations also to Emma Ulmer who was the recipient of the Faculty of Business Administration Dean’s Medal and Dawson Williams-Nadler who was the recipient of the University Prize in Business Administration.

	In October the Hill and Levene Schools launched our new strategic plan for 2021-2025. Our plan reflects extensive consultation (with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders) over more than a six month period. Included in the new plan are our updated vision, mission and values Vision: Where responsible business comes to life through education and research. Mission: In business education and research, we foster meaningful experiential learning and engagement in local, national, and international communities, and demonstrate commitment to inclusivity and social justice. Values: Student-Centred; Ethical Conduct & Professional Practice; Commitment to Truth & Reconciliation; Curiosity; Inclusivity & Diversity in Thought and Action; and Sustainable Practice. 	Congratulations to Dr. Gordon Pennycook who is the recipient of a grant from Facebook Research for $50,000USD for the project “Measuring the impact of online disinformation in conflict zones” with fellow collaborators Brian McQuinn, Dorsa Nazemi-Salman, and Laura Courchesne.

	Congratulations to Bruce Anderson who was named an Academic Fellow by the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes (ICMCI). Find out more on the ICMCI and Bruce’s accomplishment.

	Congratulations to Dr. Wallace Lockhart who joined the 2021 Centre for Teaching & Learning Scholars. As a CTL Scholar, Wallace has been recognized as an outstanding faculty member who demonstrates a strong commitment to teaching and learning in his practice as well as the willingness to promote teaching and learning excellence in our Faculty and across the institution.

	The 2021 Hill \| Levene Review was released in October. This year's issue focuses on the theme of agribusiness and shares highlights of the work that the Hill and Levene Schools of Business are doing in this area. You can find the 2021 publication (along with past editions on our website) here.

	Congratulations to Hill alumna Robyn Ham who was selected as a recipient of the 2020 Canada’s Volunteer Awards (CVAs) for the Emerging Leader Award in the region of Prairies. Read more here.

	The Enactus Regina group and the Hill and Levene Schools of Business, in partnership with the Prince’s Trust Charity, again hosted the Operation Entrepreneur (OE West) program in August. A huge shout out to Emma Chuckry, Student Project Manager for Enactus Regina and Dr. Lisa Watson, Faculty Advisor for their leadership and commitment. A special thank-you to Dr. Wallace Lockhart, Dr. Peter Moroz, Lee Elliott, Randy Linton and Bruce Anderson for providing expert instructions during the program.

	Congratulations to Hill alumnus Doug McKillop (BAdmin ’76), the 2021 recipient of the Alumni Crowning Achievement Award for Outstanding Service (Dr. Robert and Norma Ferguson Award). Doug has had a long and distinguished career in the accounting profession and has been a tireless community volunteer, especially for the University of Regina Rams football club, and as a member of Leaders Council. 	Congratulations to Dr. Gordon Pennycook who is the recipient of a grant for $25,000 USD from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace for his project “Scaling-up Interventions against Misinformation on Social Media”.

	Congratulations to Dr. Zhou Zhang who is the recipient of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council grant for $64,954 for the project "Post-crisis financial regulation, financial flexibility, and firms' access to financing: international evidence".

	Congratulations to Dr. Gordon Pennycook who is the recipient of a grant for $89,780 from the Minister of Canadian Heritage under the Digital Citizen Contribution Program for his project “Scaling up accuracy nudge interventions to counter disinformation in Canada”.

	Dr. Shelagh Campbell has been appointed to the Unifor Public Review Board – the national body constituted under the constitutions that hears appeals of members’ disputes over decisions made by governing bodies in the union. Shelagh joins fellow members Gregor Murray, Canadian Research Chair in Globalization and Work; Dr. Kumar Pradeep, Professor Emeritus of Queen’s University; and Cara Zwibel, Director of Fundamental Freedoms Programs at the Canadian Civil Liberties Association.

	Congratulations to Dr. Shelagh Campbell who has been invited to join the editorial board of the Canadian Arbitration and Mediation Journal for a two-year term from July 2021 to the end of June 2023.

	Congratulations to Dr. Sanobar Siddiqui who received the CAAA Special Education Research Grant for $6,000 from the Canadian Academic Accounting Association for her project “A Structured Review of Research-Informed Instructional Strategies to Support and Enhance CPA Enabling Competencies in Future Accountants: Insights, Practical Implications, and Future Research Directions”.

	Congratulations to Dr. Gordon Pennycook who was the recipient of a grant from Google for $100,000 for the project “Fighting Misinformation on Twitter Using an Accuracy Nudge Intervention” with collaborators Dr. Hause Lin from U of R and Dr. David Rand, Dr. Dean Eckles, Dr. Adam Berinsky, Dr. Antonio Alonso Arechar, Zivvy Epstein from MIT and Dr. Mohsen Mosleh from Exeter.

	Congratulations to Dr. Gordon Pennycook who is the recipient of our CPA Research Impact Award for 2021! The CPA Research Impact Award was established to recognize and celebrate research excellence at the Hill and Levene Schools of Business, specifically research that makes a positive impact on our community, as well as the body of knowledge in the perspective areas on research. CPA Saskatchewan has made this award possible through a generous donation. Gordon is very deserving of this award and his research record is impressive. Since 2018, Gordon has published 41 peer-reviewed journal articles, 4 commentaries, 2 handbooks, 3 chapters, 1 edited book, and 8 popular press articles. He has delivered 19 invited talks, 6 public lectures, and 9 conference presentations. He has also advised a number of students and postdocs. He has secured over $500,000 in grants (housed at the U of R). His research has been cited over 10,000 times, including over 4,200 times in 2020 alone (according to Google Scholar). His work is regularly cited by the media and is already impacting policy for social media companies.

	Congratulations to the 316 students from the Hill School of Business and the 67 students from the Levene Graduate School of Business who convocated in Spring 2021. Congratulations also to Julien Johnson who was the EMBA Valedictorian, Jordan Tholl who was the recipient of the Faculty of Business Administration Dean’s Medal and Leanne Jansen who was the recipient of the the Leon Goldman Scholarship. 	Congratulations to Dr. Andrew Stevens who was the recipient of a SSCHR Insight Grant with co-investigator Dr. Catherine E. Connelly of McMaster University for $95,527 for 2021-2024 for their project “Is everyone equal in the COVID recovery? Labour market opportunities and exclusion during the job application process”.

	Congratulations to our Enactus Regina team who was named as 1 of 20 National Semifinalists for its third consecutive year! Enactus Regina and Enactus University of Saskatchewan also won this year’s Collaboration Award for their Pushstart project! Pushart is an entrepreneurial social networking initiative led by Project Managers Talha Babar (University of Regina) and Levi Perrault (previously University of Regina, now University of Saskatchewan). Congratulations to our remarkable students! A special thank you to Enactus faculty advisor Dr. Lisa Watson for her work with the group!

	Congratulations to Dr. Gordon Pennycook who was the recipient of MIT Sloan Health Systems Initiative Funding for $60,000 for his project “Understanding and Reducing Racial Inequity for COVID-19 Vaccination” with collaborations by Dr. Charles Senteio, Dr. David Rand, and Christie Newton.

	Congratulations to the Hill Business Students’ Society who hosted a remote version of their annual Keg-A-Rama fundraiser on February 26th, raising $2,047.83 for the Regina Firefighter Burn Unit.

	Congratulations to our Enactus Regina who team placed in the Top Three in their leagues in all three challenge categories at Enactus Canada’s 2021 Western Regional Exposition! Results include: First Runner Up in the CWB Financial Education Challenge: “Fifo” project lead by Salmaan Moolla Second Runner Up in the Scotiabank Climate Action Challenge: “Water Secure” & “You Should Garden” projects lead by Arslan Azeem & Mahnoor Tajiik Second Runner Up in the TD Entrepreneurship Challenge: “SaskMasks” project led by Jana Ham & Robyn Ham Congratulations to the team’s executive, the project managers, their amazing project team members, and Faculty Advisor, Dr. Lisa Watson, for achieving this unprecedented result in what has been an incredibly difficult year.

	Dr. Gordon Pennycook collaborated on a team partnering with the Canadian Cancer Society, for receiving Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada PEG Award and research funding!

	The Hill Business Students’ Society held their 12th annual 5 Days for the Homeless initiative from March 15th through to the 19th. Our students have yet again demonstrated their resilience and creative thinking as they reimagined the event and found a way to support the important work being done by Carmichael Outreach virtually with their Project Live for 5 Days event. Congratulations to the students for raising $30,230 for Carmichael Outreach, bringing their 12 year total to $410,508!

	Members of the Faculty of Business Administration who were honoured in the University of Regina’s Long Service Recognition Awards include: Dr. Ernest Johnson, Dr. Lisa Watson, Raelynn Norbeck, and Thomas Tse for 15 years or service; and Evelyn McRae for a remarkable 35 years of service.

	Congratulations to Dr. Abiodun Isiaka and Dr. Jacqui Gagnon who received a 2020-2021 Dean’s Research Grant for their project entitled “Proposed CPA enabling competencies: Online education and the link with practice.”

	We hosted our Leader Council Student Recognition event to recognize all of our student groups as well as scholarship recipients, Dean’s Honours List recipients, and alumni associations virtually on February 11. We are excited to share a new video with "shout outs" from members of the business community recognizing our students' successes and engagement.

	Congratulations to Dr. Gordon Pennycook and his team whose paper “Using Social and Behavioural Science to Support COVID-19 Pandemic Response” was selected by the Institute for Public Relations as one of their Top 15 Public Relations Insights of 2020. The list of the top papers can be found here.
