Valhalla's New Angel Workshop
Angel investing has emerged over the last 20 years to include over 3 million investors globally. Around the world capital has been migrating to technology driven startup companies, providing outsized returns and generating wealth for skilled startup investors compared to more traditional investment asset classes. Valhalla has conducted angel investor training in Canada and in over 12 countries worldwide since 2012 with great success. In Valhalla’s New Angel Workshop, seasoned investors from Valhalla Private Capital discuss the steps required on the path to becoming a successful angel investor and provide insights to guide you as you embark on this journey. Our New Angel Workshop consists of 2.5 hours for those who want to delve into angel investing and learn the do’s and don’ts of this emerging investment practice.

Jan has done hundreds of investment deals over a 30-year career as an angel investor, startup investor, and M&A and investment lawyer. She has led bootcamps all over the world, judged hundreds of pitch competitions and developed a keen eye for evaluating startup talent.

Jan holds an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy and a Juris Doctor from the University of Manitoba, a Program on Negotiation Certificate from Harvard Law School and a Blue Belt in Innovation Engineering. She has for many years been named to Best Lawyers in Canada in Mergers and Acquisitions Law, Leveraged Buyouts and Private Equity Law.

Jan currently is a Director of Valhalla Private Capital, a Director of Timia Capital Corp., and Director and Chairman of RocketRez Inc. and OncoDrex Inc. She is a former Director of Genome Canada; past Chair of the Board of Governors of the University of Manitoba; and past director of Economic Development Winnipeg. She was the founding Chair of Innovate Manitoba Inc., an industry-led non-profit focused on accelerating innovation and has worked with over 600 startups, researchers and emerging growth companies to assist in the commercialization of their products and services. 

Jan was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Award in 2012 and Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee Award in 2002, as well as the University of Manitoba Distinguished Alumni Award.
