Program Name ChangeEffective the Spring/Summer 2019 (201920) term, the Local Government Authority and the Advanced Local Government Authority Certificate programs will be re-named the Local Government Administration and Advanced Local Government Administration Certificate programs. Program Content ChangeEffective Fall 2019 (201930) term, students admitted and/or re-admitted to the Local Government Administration program will be required to take an additional course, LG 208 AA-ZZ, to complete the certificate program. All new students will now be required to complete the five required courses in order to graduate with the Local Government Administration Certificate. Students admitted to the Local Government Administration program prior to the Fall 2019 (201930) term will not be required to take the additional course, but are welcome to take it if they wish. |
The Urban and Rural Boards of Examiners have made completion of parts or all of the Certificate in Local Government Administration program the educational requirement of certification for the administrator of a rural or an urban municipality.

Courses are offered online (Fall and Winter) and one-week in-class intensives are available for some Spring courses.
You Will Learn
- The fundamental concepts of society, democracy, and principles of local government administration in Saskatchewan
- Introduction to Saskatchewan legislation relevant to municipal government processes, procedures and authority
- Basic accounting principles
- The history, purposes and principles of local government accounting, budgeting, audits, assessment and taxation with emphasis on Urban and Rural Municipalities and School Division accounting
Note: Students enrolled in a part-time program do not maintain full-time student status throughout the program. Therefore part-time programs may be unavailable to international applicants due to Citizenship and Immigration Canada regulations. Part time programs are also not eligible for student loan funding.
