Conservatory Instructor
Cello, Child/Parent Strings
In His Studio:
Joel MacDonald teaches cello with the Conservatory. Lessons with Joel cost $61 per hour of instruction. He is accepting students at this time. Joel will teach students ages 3 and up, and will teach any level of student. In Joel’s studio, students are required to work towards exams, to participate in recitals, and to participate in Music Festival. He teaches classical music, but will accept non-classical music if it's level appropriate. Joel requires students to supply their own cello (can be bought or rented from Long & McQuade or the Sound Post). Sizing and other considerations for children will be determined at the first meeting/lesson; adults will need a 4/4 cello. His practice policy will be discussed with student/parents.
Biography:
Joel MacDonald is currently a cello instructor at the Conservatory of Performing Arts at the University of Regina, where he teaches students of all ages in individual lessons and in the Child Parent Strings Program. A graduate of the University of Regina’s Bachelor of Music Education program, Joel is also a registered Suzuki teacher, having completed training in levels 1-8 in Canada and the US. Joel was previously a cello Teaching Artist with Sistema New Brunswick and a classroom music teacher in London, UK. Also an avid performer, Joel has been a member of the Saskatoon and Regina symphonies, has performed with Prairie Virtuosi and at the Ritornello chamber music festival, and is an alumnus of the National Youth Orchestra, the National Academy Orchestra, and the Orchestra of the Americas. He has participated in musical outreach projects through the Orchestra of the Americas Global Leaders Program in Canada, the USA, Puerto Rico, and Haiti.
