Voice and Choir

About Our Classes

One of the best ways to develop your singing voice is to be part of a choir. Even before taking Private Lessons in voice, singers in a choir learn basic breath control and tone matching. Choir provides an excellent musical education along with fostering teamwork and building confidence.

If you are interested in one-on-one voice lessons for you or your child, we recommend trying Private Lessons.

ACCENT: Tenor & Bass Choir / Chœur de Tenor & Basse du Conservatoire

Join our choir community in ACCENT: Conservatory Tenor & Bass Choir / Chœur de Tenor & Basse du Conservatoire. This specialized choir is for high school singers in the tenor/bass range that want to improve skills and works with other great low voices in the city. Choir members will not only gather to sing, they will also learn important vocal technique and theory and have opportunities to perform together in the community. This group is a great addition to a high school choir experience for low voices to network, take on a new challenge, and meet new friends. All genders are welcome to attend this program as long as you sing in a range of roughly C3 - A4 (tenor singers) or F2 - E4 (bass singers), as choral music will be selected for these vocal ranges. This choir is directed by Brianna Levesque.

Adult Choir

This fun and relaxed singing environment will introduce you to the basics of music, singing in unison and, eventually, singing in 3-part harmony. This choir is suitable for experienced vocalists or singers looking for a casual vocal group to join. You will improve your singing skills with a friendly community of adult learners. The choir year runs from September - beginning of May and the group takes a break in December and returns at the end of January. This choir is directed by Lori Potter.

Prairie Kids Chorus

The Prairie Kids Chorus welcomes new students, as well as, old students from Sweet Sounds and the Juventus Choir as we join together to discover the joys of singing. The choir includes learning to sing in unison and by rote for the youngest singers. This is an introductory choir where children will learn to match pitch and discover the joy of singing together. Singers who would like to expand their knowledge join the Prairie Kids Chorus PLUS group to stay later after rehearsals to learn more about part singing and music theory.

Summer Singing Club

In partnership with the University of Regina Department of Music, the Conservatory of Performing Arts is excited to invite teen and young adult singers of all abilities and voices to join us in a short 3-day Summer Singing Club. This club is perfect for students who sang in their school or community choirs looking for a community over the summer while choir activities are on break. This is also suitable for beginners who are just learning to find their voice. On the last day of camp, we will be presenting a short choral concert to family and friends to show off all of the skills and new pieces we learned together. We will be singing pieces suitable for Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass voices - changed and unchanged voices are welcome to join! This group will be directed by Dr. Melissa Morgan, Assistant Professor of Choral Music in the department of Media, Arts, and Performance at the University of Regina.

Vocal Jazz Choir

The Conservatory Vocal Jazz Choir is for singers ages 13+. We sing to both jazz standards and contemporary pop, jazz, blues, and gospel music. All vocal ranges (changed and unchanged voices) are welcome as this choir sings music suitable to Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass vocal ranges. This choir is non-auditioned. All are welcome to join regardless of experience! This group is directed by Cynthia Peyson Wahl.

University Chamber Choir

The University Chamber Singers is an elite multi-award winning 28 voice ensemble open to University students and adult community members which focuses on a cappella choral repertoire. Entrance is by audition only with heavy emphasis on sight-singing ability. Please contact Melissa Morgan to book an audition for admittance to the ensemble. Singers must prepare an art song or aria for the audition.

University Concert Choir

All University students and adult community members are welcome to sing in the University Concert Choir, a dynamic ensemble of approximately 75 singers. The choir's programming spans a wide range of genres and styles with regular performances with orchestra. All members are required to meet with the instructor in the first weeks of the terms for a voice placement.

Please contact Melissa Morgan to book an interview for admittance into the choir.
