U of R introduces a new bundling option that freezes tuition for international students

Backgrounder Release Date: May 5, 2022 10:00 a.m.

In response to rising costs facing international students – in particular, the higher rate of tuition they pay in comparison to domestic students - the University of Regina is introducing a new bundling option in Fall 2022 that will allow international students who live on campus to have their tuition and fees frozen at their first-year level for the duration of their time at the University.

Both undergraduate and graduate international students will be eligible to participate in the program which will also feature a discount in their residence fees when they purchase an all-inclusive package that also bundles amenities such as a meal plan, and a Campus Store account.

Over a four-year period, the potential savings will be between five and 15 per cent - or $7,000 to $20,000- for a qualifying student depending on their program and the type of housing selected.

The University of Regina recognizes that it is strengthened by diverse world views and experiences and is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment along with an affordable, accessible education for international students to learn, study, and grow. International students currently pay up to three times more than domestic students for the same post-secondary experience. It is critical that we ensure the cost of education does not become out of reach for international students, which is why we are offering them options to reduce their expenditures and plan their budgets over their entire university careers.

Further information on the new bundling program will be available beginning in early June through UR International.
