Graduate Student Orientation

Congratulations and welcome to the University of Regina!

We're so glad that you'll be joining us as a graduate student this fall and can't wait to meet you onTuesday August 29, 2023, Orientation Day. Below you'll see the events that have been planned with you in mind, all of which require you to register in advance.

Students new to the University of Regina are encourgaged to attend either domestic or international orientation in the morning and the FGSR session and Understanding Academic Integrity workshop in the afternoon.

FGSR is also holding a workshop about how to work with a supervisor for thesis-based students and a training course for students who will be working as Teaching Assistants.

FGSR Workshop: Understanding Academic Integrity

Having an understanding of academic integrity at the start of your academic journey is fundamental to success in your graduate work. This workshop will familiarize you with principles you need to avoid academic misconduct and some of the common mistakes graduate students make.

Pre-GTEC Program

The Pre-GTEC is a half-day course offered by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research and the Center for Teaching and Learning. It is designed to prepare Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) for their roles and to enhance their overall graduate experience while benefiting undergraduate students' learning experiences. Upon completion, you will receive a non-credit certificate. More information can be found on the Centre for Teaching and Learning's website.

FGSR Workshop: How to have a great relationship with your supervisor

The main indicator of graduate student success is a positive relationship with their supervisor. We have some great training on how to establish expectations, develop communication systems -- and on the supports available to facilitate this.
