FGSR's Undergraduate Research Award (UGRA)

Description:

Building undergraduate students' research and creative competencies through experiential learning is a strategic priority of the University of Regina. These paid awards will provide extensive research experience leading to greater student excellence. Supervisors will provide mentorship, leadership and expertise involving the student's research. Whether it be working in a lab, immersive learning, creative inquiry, or any other form of research-based learning, the goal is to create and/or further enhance our undergraduate research culture across the university by providing students with an opportunity to build research competencies and to celebrate undergraduate research success. The Faculty of Graduate Studies & Research Undergraduate Research Award (UGRA) will advance our inventory of undergraduate research experiences and provide undergraduate students, with an enhanced experience in research and creative inquiries.  Consideration may be given to Indigenous students.  Consideration may be given to the student’s grades over the past 3 semesters, but full/up to date transcripts MUST BE submitted.

The Faculty of Graduate Studies & Research Undergraduate Research Award must take place over a four month period between May and August (16 weeks) full-time awards only (approximately 36 hours per week).

Value: 2nd/3rd year students $9,296.86, 4th/5th year students $11,349.97 Rates based on the CUPE 2419 Collective Agreement
Eligibility:

Undergraduate Research Award Student must be:

-an undergraduate student in good standing at the University of Regina throughout the time of the award;

-have completed all the course requiremts of at least the first year of study (or two academic terms) of your bachelor's degree

-enrolled in at least one class during the Fall 2022 or Winter 2023 semesters;

-will NOT be registered in the Spring/Summer while holding the full time award; Special premission may be given for one class by reaching out to grad.funding@uregina.ca

-you are not eligible to apply for an UGRA if you have completed all your degree requiremnts by application deadline and are no longer registered in a bachelor's degree program at an instiution;

-you must attach a copy to your application of your “Current Registration & List of Courses (Unofficial Transcript)” from UR Self Service, dated January 2023 to show final FALL 2022 grades.

- all eligible students are encouraged to apply but preference will be given to students in NON NSERC areas of study.

Applications:

Faculty Members are asked to work with prospective Undergraduate Research Awardees to prepare a one page statement, including detailed description of the specific research tasks that the student will be engaged in, types of training and/or mentorship that will be committed by the faculty and/or supervisor (e.g., research methods, safety training).  This includes availability of resources required to successfully conduct the project (e.g., workspace, equipment), evidence of adequate academic standing, and agreement to be involved in public communication related to the research and their work. This proposal should be unique to each student.  Please comment on the student's fit, their research tasks and their potential to complete theis research project.

Students will also need to attach an up to date unofficial or offical University of Regina Transcript.  Please see the attached application for full details.
