Registration Requirements for International Students

All international students on a student visa/study permit are required by Citizenship and Immigration Canada to be a student in good standing, which is defined by the University of Regina as being registered in every semester, and no failing grades.

International Master’s students must be registered full-time in the Fall and Winter semesters, and minimally part-time in the Spring/Summer semester.

International Doctoral students must be registered full-time in every semester.

International students are not eligible for part-time study in the Fall or Winter semesters, and may not be eligible for Master's Certificates.

Full-time registration for international students is defined as:

  • registered in six credit hours or more in the Fall semester, and Winter semester
  • registered in six credit hours or more in the Fall semester, Winter semester, and Spring/Summer semester (for Doctoral students)
  • registered in courses designated as full-time registration (co-op program, single work placement, internship, post-program full-time maintenance, full-time extension)

Registration in three credit hours does not meet the definition of full-time registration unless those credit hours pertain to the last requirements of the program.
