Big Ideas. Local Impact. Two Days to Build a Social Innovative Solution for Regina!

An Innovation Challenge is a fast-paced, collaborative experience where students, entrepreneurs, and community members come together to tackle real issues facing Regina. Working in teams, participants transform local problems and opportunities into bold, actionable solutions. Ideas may take the form of a policy, program, social enterprise, technology, or something entirely new. The challenge concludes with teams pitching their concepts to community and industry leaders.

1) Regina Open Doors Tech Skills Showcase Partnership

Tech Skills Showcase is an event organized in partnership with Regina Open Doors Society. This Tech event brings together newcomers with a background in IT with local IT companies. During the event teams made-up of newcomers work on IT challenges to find creative solutions. Professionals from local IT companies participate in the event as mentors to coach the teams, and judges to judge the performance of each team in solving the tech challenges. This event allows participants to; show off their tech skills, meet mentors, and network with the local IT community. IT companies are given the opportunity to meet and source skilled and promising talent for their team.

Event Schedule

8:00 AM
Competitors arrive and chose a team to compete with.
8:30 AM – 4:00 PM
The teams will work on solving their tech challenge and meet with mentors!
4:30 PM
Each team will present their tech challenge solution to the judges.
6:00 PM
The winning team will be chosen and awarded a $1,000.00 prize!

In 2026, we reimagined and revitalized Regina’s downtown. Teams explored strategies that strengthen community well-being, boost economic activity, and enhance the downtown experience.

Who Can Participate:

The Innovation Challenge is open to all students enrolled at the University of Regina or its federated colleges. Participation is open to all undergrad and graduate students from all faculties.
