Bachelor of Fine Arts in Devised Performance and Theatre Creation (URDevised)

Daring. Passionate. Visionary.

Our new Bachelor of Fine Arts in Devised Performance and Theatre Creation.

Designed to support and encourage the young theatre artist of tomorrow in defining their unique artistic voice, the BFA in Devised Performance and Theatre Creation provides a solid foundation in theatre practice with classes in voice, movement, acting, devising, writing, design, dramaturgy, stage management and technical theatre to create holistic, forward-thinking theatre artists who are equipped to create and produce fresh, original work in their own voice.  This program is for theatre artists who are interested in creating a new path in the theatre landscape of tomorrow.

Devise:

Verb; to invent something, especially with intelligence and imagination.

Turn your creative ideas into theatre productions with like-minded individuals and invent engaging, diverse, inclusive theatrical experiences that speak to you.  Imagine and write artistic work that is created through active engagement with the world around you and collaborate with your peers to build theatre productions that result in a dynamic, original performances.  The BFA in Devised Performance and Theatre Creation is designed to educate, encourage, and support emerging theatre artists in creating their own original plays and performances through various devising processes. You will learn how to build a show with instructors who are practicing professional artist-scholars.

Interpret:

Verb; to perform a dramatic role in a particular way that conveys one’s understanding of the creator’s ideas.

In the BFA in Devised Performance and Theatre Creation, students will also hone their skills in scripted plays from the world stage. Sing and dance in our annual Cabaret, perform professionally in a one-act play in the Regina Fringe Festival, and make your debut on the Riddell Centre Stage in a beautifully designed and directed play selected specifically for you and your cohorts. The BFA in Devised Performance and Theatre Creation offers students the opportunity to perform in plays by playwrights with national and international reputations. Join us, and learn how to stretch your talent in world-class plays in this original and dynamic new program.

The BFA in Devised Performance and Theatre Creation is a direct-entry program. Students will interview with faculty after their first year to determine their course of study.
