The Social Work Student Society invites all Pre-SW, BSW and MSW students to our second Wellness Night on March 23rd from 5:00pm-6:30pm. In accordance with government restrictions this event will be hosted through Google Meets.

This event will include discussions surrounding student wellbeing through these unprecedented times. While beginning to recover from the pandemic we will explore how the impacts of COVID-19 have influenced the social work profession. Discussions will focus on how to reduce the risk of burnout while still providing services to the diverse populations we serve.

Dr. Michele Sorensen will be facilitating discussion throughout the event. Dr. Sorensen is an Assistant Professor of Social Work on Treaty four, Regina campus. Dr. Sorensen provides an innovative perspective on social work practice, through new materialist philosophies to access diffractive research methods that focus on aesthetic experiences of embodied practices for generation differences and for augmenting feelings of capacity for reconstructing one’s sense of self in ways not aligned with binary thinking or easy polemics.

Dr. Sorensen will share ways to manage and maintain mental wellness as self-care, and she will work to offer some alternatives that can be added to the things that students are already doing now. The notions of ‘you are not alone’ and ‘belonging’ are also key ideas that will be discussed. We thank Dr. Sorensen for her time and insight into wellness and the forever changing social work practice.
